The Commander, 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig -Gen. Nasiru Jega, has warned politicians and their supporters across its area of operation to steer clear violence during Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Brig.-Gen. Jega gave the warning in a statement by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Officer in the brigade, Maj. Bashir Jajira, in Uyo on Thursday.

He said that the brigade would do its best to ensure that the elections on Saturday were carried out in the most peaceful manner in Akwa Ibom.

“As Nigerians go to the polls on Saturday it is imperative to ensure that the exercise is carried out in the most peaceful manner in Akwa Ibom, he said.

He said that the army and sister security agencies would ensure that the people fully exercised their franchise in an atmosphere devoid of molestation, harassment or intimidation.

“Headquarters 2 Brigade therefore, implore all law-abiding citizens to desist from any act capable of breaching peace before, during or after the general elections.

“The command also vows to decisively deal with culprits of political thuggery in the areas of ballot box snatching, arson and other electoral offences in the state in accordance with the law,” he stated.

The commander gave the brigade’s Situation Room contact phone numbers for the 2019 general election as follows: 0814 9731114, 0806 2212419 and 0703 203 2944.

Brig.-Gen. Jega also urged the general public to send text or WhatsApp messages, videos, pictures and audios on election violence as well as other complaints to the phone numbers.

He commended Akwa Ibom people for their cooperation and solicited their continued support by providing timely information to the brigade. (NNN)
