Abuja, Feb. 21, 2019 Mr Obi Onyeigwe, a Senior Fellow, Youths Peace Building and Development in Africa (YOUPEDA), an NGO, has advised youths in the country to be agents of change to boost the success of the rescheduled election on Saturday.

Onyeigwe gave advice in an Interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja.

He called on youths to eschew being used by  some politicians to foment trouble during and after the exercise.

“Youths taking part in thuggery is totally condemned by YOUPEDA.

“Youths of voting age are ready to vote in the forthcoming election, we don’t foresee any form of thuggery during the exercise. However, we should not give chances.

“The good thing is that, the shift in polls has actually provided a new spirit for many electorate who are now more determined to vote.

Onyeigwe, however, called for the effective implementation of the electoral law so that politicians or groups found to have been involved in thuggery are made to face the full wrath of the law.

The senior fellow said that such action would  deter others.

He said that thuggery and other violence continued due to the fact that electopral laws were not fully implemented.

“Whether you are rich or poor, the law should descend on you when you contravene the law.

“This is why some other West African neighbours are fast moving ahead of us in democratic practices, electioneering process, and adherence to law and and order.

Onyeigwe also called on government to make the nation’s institutions work effectively for the good of state and the citizenry.
