Election: Choice of credible leaders will determine Nigeria’s dev – Emir

Birinin Kebbi, Feb. 21, 2019 The Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar, has urged Nigerians to see the outcome of the 2019 general elections as directly connected to the country’s democracy and its socio -economic development.
Addressing newsmen on Thursday in his palace in Birnin Kebbi, Bashar urged eligible voters to turnout in large numbers to elect credible candidates of their choice in the state.
”I call on all eligible voters to come out en-masse to exercise their franchise, and women and people with disability be given due attention during the elections.
”Despite the reschedule of elections, eligible voters should exercise patience and intensify efforts to exercise their civic rights ”, he said.
“We call on all eligible voters to promote violence-free elections; they should also come out en-masse on election days and vote for credible leaders,’’ Bashar added.
The traditional ruler stressed the need for religious organisations and traditional leaders to educate their subjects and followers on the electoral process in order to reduce the number of void votes.
The Emir said that the Kebbi State Council of Chiefs had held meeting with all districts and village heads on the need to be vigilant and security conscious during the elections.
He urged the youth not to allow such desperate politicians to use them to foment trouble or perpetrate electoral malpractices during the elections.
The emir expressed hope for fee and fair elections in the country.
