Patriotism

By Funmilayo Adeyemi

Abuja, Feb. 21, 2019 The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu has advised members of the academic community to be  involved in the conduct of the general elections to be honest and impartial in the performance of their duties.

Adamu spoke on Thursday in Abuja at the 8th edition of the ministry’s weekend news conference.

“My advice to them is that they should go and do the job with honesty, impartiality and patriotism.’’

Speaking on the number of out-of-school children, the minister said the ministry was working hard to ensure the number reduced drastically.

According to him, “though primary education is the responsibility of state and local governments, we at our end, we are working to supervise and make sure education is given priority.

“We have taken a lot of interest in providing quality education across board.

“ From our national strategic plan, the out-of-school children are in our priority and we have been doing a lot.

“My promise is that by the end of the plan, we would have reduced the number of out-of-school children by at least half. I know we have reduced the number by 150,000.

Adamu at the launch of a Ministerial Strategic Plan 2016-2019, affirmed that Nigeria was still grappling and leading with the highest number of out-of-school children roaming the streets.

He said government would urgently raise the national Net Enrolment Rate (NER) to ensure that all out-of-school children are enrolled in basic education schools.
