Abuja, Feb. 21, 2019 The Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF) Gender and Election Watch (GEW) Room has urged all political actors to refrain from undemocratic actions that are detrimental to the forthcoming elections

In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of NWTF, Mrs Mufuliat Fijabi, said that the organisation had noticed increase in hate speeches amongst political actors, violence and intimidation to some female candidates.

Fijabi said that unpatriotic words and actions were threats to democratic sustainability in the country.

She also urged security agencies to intensify efforts at protecting lives and property before, during and after the elections.

“I strongly condemn all acts of intimidation and violence against female candidates in the Feb. 23 elections and call on the security agencies to be at alert and maintain law and order.

“GEW also urges all Nigerian voters to have trust in the electoral system and turn out on election day to cast their votes,” she said.
