The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe -Abdullahi, has called for harmonious working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of all the 13 local government councils in the state to enhance the peace and development of rural communities.

Balarabe-Abdullahi made the call on Monday while addressing the executive and the legislative arms of Toto Local Government council in his office, in Lafia.

He said that the cordial working relationship among the council leaders would not only promote unity and peace but would also ensure speedy development in their respective councils.

“I have decided to invite you so that we can collectively rub minds and share ideas in order to move Toto Local Government area forward.

“I feel deeply concerned about what is happening in the local government in the last two weeks, as there were news on social media and people are also calling me over the fracas between the executive and the legislature in my council area.

“As a leader in my local government, I call you on the need for you to cement your working relationship in the interest of development.

“If you have problems among yourselves, you must set aside whatsoever may be the differences and work in harmony for the development of our area and the state at large,” he said.

Balarabe-Abdullahi called on the executive and legislative arms of the 13 local government areas in the state to always show understanding with each other whenever there was any issue between them.

“Even at the state and national levels, the executive and the legislature need each other and they should be seen as working in synergy for peace and progress,” the speaker added.

He solicited for the support of the people of the state for all the local government functionaries to enable them to succeed.

The speaker used the occasion to assure the people of the state of the assembly’s commitment to enacting laws and pass resolutions that would have direct bearing on their lives.

Contributing, the member representing Toto/Gadabuke constituency at the state Assembly, Usman Shafa, noted that peace was a necessary requirement for the development of any society, hence the need for the council functionaries to work together for the overall progress of their people.

In their separate response, the chairman Toto local council, Alhaji Nuhu Dauda, and the Speaker of the legislative council, Shekwogadu Emmanuel, assured of effective working relationship for the overall development of the council area.
