Ex-ADC chairman tasks FG on insecurity, corruption

Mr Godfrey Lemchi, a former Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State, has urged the Federal Government to address the nation’s insecurity challenges.

Lemchi told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos that insecurity had hindered the country’s growth and development.

He said that 20 years after the nation’s democratic rule, there was still insecurity issues in all parts of the country.

“Twenty years down democratic rule in Nigeria, we cannot really beat our chest to claim true democracy.

“The sad thing is that our elected leaders are indifferent to the security problems,’’ he said.

Lemchi supported the calls for restructuring of the country to allow each part to govern itself and see to its survival.

He also urged the Federal Government to address the issue of corruption, which according to him, had been institutionalised over the years with its index becoming very high.

“Corruption index in Nigeria is very high.

“We hear of billions of Naira and dollars budgeted for the development of the country, but the moneys are being frittered away into individual pockets.”

“Corruption must be addressed holistically; the culprits should be encouraged to bring back their loots and grant them soft landing,” Lemchi said.

The party chief also suggested that the nation’s faulty electoral system should be put right.

He called for the review of salaries of political office holders to make it conform with the nation’s economic reality.
