Ex-CSO enjoins Benue youths to shun criminality

Mr Tertindi Adom, former Chief Security Officer (CSO), Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi, has admonished youths in Benue to shun criminality and engage themselves in meaningful ventures for their overall development.

Adom gave the advice on Saturday in Makurdi during an interview with newsmen.

He noted with sadness the renewed cases of insecurity in the state, which he attributed to the activities of idle youths who craved for luxurious lives without genuine sources of income.

He challenged youths in the state to imbibe the culture of thinking outside the box, adding that they should not hope for white-collar jobs which are no longer forthcoming.

“It is not possible for all the youth to be employed by either government or the private sector, hence the need for them to devise other genuine ways of eking out a living,’’ he said.

The ex-chief security officer urged them to make good use of the many windows of opportunities provided by Gov. Samuel Ortom’s administration to make them self-reliant and financially independent.

“I want to agree with the notion that most of our youths are lazy, they want to live flamboyant lives without any genuine income and the only way they can achieve that is through criminality.

“This is what has informed my appeal that they take to gainful ventures that will enhance their income.

“Most of our youths today tend to rename criminality and gangsterism with all sorts of names and it is very unfortunate, a criminal is a criminal no matter the name you call it,’’ he said.

Adom said that he had been counselling youths on the need to change their bad ways so that they could be of use to the society, saying that the crusade had been on for several years.

“I can tell you categorically that we have recorded some level of success.

“For instance, in Benue today, we have been able to eradicate what used to be known as `Marching Ground’.

“These are unauthorised levies collected by some youths in the state from people who intend to erect structures, be they private or commercial.

“Today, you no longer have that practice in place in the state and several other negative tendencies. So, I want to believe that we are on course in this crusade,’’ Adom added.
