Ex-Squash Pro Championships is skills display showpiece

Lagos, April 22, 2019 Ahead of the 2019 edition of the Ex-Squash Pro Championships, the organisers say squash enthusiasts will be treated to an interesting display of skills in the forthcoming third edition of Ex-Squash Pro Championship.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the tournament is scheduled to serve-off from April 25 to April 27 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The Ex-Squash Pro U-13 and U-16 Championships is being organised by former squash players, as a way of giving back to sport.

The game is also to develop the sport at the grassroots which will translate to general development at all levels.

In the girls U-13 category of the 2018 edition of the tournament in Wisdom Nzei, defeated his younger brother, Daniel, but says this year’s edition promises to be exciting as he is gearing up for an upset.

In the U-13 category also, Mistura Durosinlorun, a two-time winner will be looking forward to her third win. Mistura had defeated her older sister, Aisha in the first edition of the tournament.

The 11-year-old Mistura will be defending her title for the third time since the inception of the competition.

In the boys’ U-13 category, Ibrahim Bala will be fighting tooth and nail to defend his title in the 2019 edition. While Ibrahim Balogun the first runner-up will be looking forward to rewrite history.

In the U-16 category Clinton Ighodale will be there to remind spectators why he remains the undefeated champion of the U-16 category.

While in the female section, Musa Aminat will also be jostling to retain her title.

In the 2018 edition Khadijah Durosinlorun was the youngest player, while best behaved in the male category went to Emmanuel Osuji and Kayode Ajayi-Ayomitide won it in the female category.

The chairman of the Ex-Squash Pro, Mubo Ojo, said that it’s her first tournament as Chairmanperson of the association would ensure that the tournament didn’t fall short of the previous standards.

She, however, told NNN that the ultimate goal of the tournament was beginning to yield the much desired result.

“We are seeing the results already, which is all we need to serve as motivation for us, because organising tournaments in this country is not easy.

“These children are moving to the next level, it shows we are making progress.

“It’s a gradual thing; we urge all squash lovers to show these children love by joining forces with us to make this tournament bigger,’’ she said.
