Explore opportunities in ICT to be self-reliant, Kwara Dep. Gov. urges youths

The Kwara State government has called on the Nigerian youth to explore boundless opportunities in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to empower themselves and become self-reliant.

The Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, made the call on Saturday at the 2019 Ilorin Digital Summit, held at the State Banquet Hall, Ilorin.

Alabi, who emphasised that the future lied on the ICT and digital economy, urged the youth to build their skills on ICT, irrespective of their callings.

He said that government was determined to encourage and support the youths to positively channel their energies to productive ventures, with a view to contributing to the economic growth of the state and the nation at large.

The deputy governor said that the present administration believed in the potentials that abound in the youth and implored them to be innovative, creative and ready to assist others in realising their potentials.

“You do not need an office. Get a browsing phone and market whatever you are doing online. The future belongs to those who can explore opportunities in the ICT to succeed,” Alabi said.

He assured the participants that government would not relent in fulfilling its obligations to support entrepreneurs and other investors to succeed.

He applauded the initiative of the convener of the summit, Yemisi Ajeojo and promised government’s readiness to support similar initiatives to reduce over-reliance on government, especially by the youth.

In his lecture, the Chief Operating Officer of Edubridge Academy, Mr Wakeel Olawale, implored the youth to be creative and original so as to fit into the modern world.

Olawale, who spoke on the topic: “The Future of Work”, implored them to develop their communication skills and be abreast of current issues.

The convener of the summit urged the participants to tap into the opportunities in the digital economy, which, she said, was fast growing.

Ajeojo explained that the summit was organised to expose the youth to opportunities in the digital world and embrace ICT to grow their businesses.
