Abuja, Dec. 17, 2018 (NNN) The FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB) Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society is to pay West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees for some under-privileged senior secondary students in the territory’s public schools.

The SEB cooperative’s President, Malam Shehu Abdulkarim, disclosed this in Abuja on Monday during its 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM).

He said this would enable the society to use part of the education fund, already enshrined in the by-law to help the needy, saying that the gesture was a collective decision.

He further revealed that the cooperative had concluded plans to assist 124 senior secondary students in the certificate class in furthering their education.

Abdulkarim also said this would increase SEB’s social responsibilities by using part of the fund to improve the conditions of the indigent people.

He opined that the gesture would complement the efforts of the FCT Administration towards providing affordable and accessible education to its teeming residents.

According to him, any nation that seeks development must place priority on its citizens’ education, stressing that this should not be for government alone to handle.

AbdulKarim said that the increase in membership of the cooperative had also brought about innovative methods in handling some issues faster and better.

He added that the computerisation of the software had been automated which allowed various forms of computations to be done accurately.

‘‘This provides the members to be receiving regular messages on the status of their accounts while attending to any complaints without delay.

‘‘The cooperative is up to its expectations towards members, especially during emergency time as the process is not cumbersome and at low rate as well as getting adequate update information on savings,’’ he said. (NNN)
