Some residents of Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State have appealed to government at all levels to urgently tackle the persistent flooding in the council area.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that several properties have been destroyed in the area since the onset of the rainy season.

NAN also reports that communities mostly affected by the flood include Okeho, Ilero and Aiyetoro.

A community leader in the council area, Mr Abu Gbadamosi, said governments at all levels must be responsive to the situation .

“We recognise that the administration in Oyo State is new but we also have a duty to alert them to the importance of this life threatening issue affecting us here.

“I want to appeal to the state and Federal Government to send a delegation here to see how our communities have been cut off from each other due to flooding,” he said.

Gbadamosi, who expressed optimism that government would do the needful, also appealed to residents of the council area to avoid activities that could trigger further flooding.

Also speaking, an indigene of the council area, Gbadegesin Olutayo, called for urgent Intervention, saying residents were now apprehensive over the development.

“Our people are living in fear as if tomorrow is not assured, I and others know that the new administration in Oyo State will do the needful.

“When it is about to rain, our people develop high blood pressure over what is supposed to be a blessing; our farms have already been washed away in several communities.

“We are the food basket of the state, but when our farms have been washed away and roads cut off from others, how can we live or survive?

” I want to passionately appeal for very urgent Intervention,” he said.
