Foundation donates grains, foodstuffs, other items to rehabilitation centre in Lagos

Eternal Care Foundation, a non-profit organisation, on Thursday donated bags of grains, processed foods, toiletries, copies of the Quran and disinfectants to the Lagos State Rehabilitation and Vocational Training Centre, Isheri, Lagos State.

The Director-General of the Foundation, Mr Olabode Garbadeen, while donating the items, condemned the rate of poverty and hunger in the land.

He said that the foundation was established to bridge the gap caused by hunger and poverty.

“There is so much hunger and deprivation in the land,” he said.

He said that hunger and poverty could be directly linked with crime, hence, the need to tackle them headlong.

The D-G while addressing the inmates of the correctional home, said that the visit was in line with the vision of the foundation to give succour to the needy in the society.

He appealed to the inmates to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the home so that they could leave there on time and be reintegrated into the larger society.

He said that his foundation’s philosophy was reinforced by a philosopher’s saying that: “The only life worth living is a life lived for others.

“We cannot live in comfort without sharing with you.

“We have capacity over those things you lack; perhaps, there are things you have that we also lack.

“Every human being is important; that is why we are here to interact with you,” he said.

He prayed that the inmates would become greater citizens after they might have completed their rehabilitation therapy.

He thanked the principal for taking care of the centre and the inmates.

“I pray this afternoon that the peace of Allah will reside with you.

“We believe as a group, we are comfortable and we should reach out to others,’’ he said.

Garbadeen also commended the Lagos State Government for how it was handling the welfare of children.

He appealed to philanthropists and corporate organizations to support the state, adding that   the challenges were enormous.

The Principal of the Centre, Mr Tunji Otunla, in his response appreciated the foundation for complementing the efforts of the state government.

“When you came, we were surprised to see the several things you brought.

“On behalf of the Lagos State of Ministry of Youths and Social Development, I thank you,” he said.

He said some of the inmates were at the rehabilitation centre due to parental negligence and peer pressure.

He said that the state government has other correctional homes in Majidun, Idi Araba and   other parts of the state because of its love for the welfare of children.
