Foundation tasks FG on girl-child education, vulnerable children

Al-Ansar Children’s Home Foundation in Kuje, FCT, has called on the Federal Government to give adequate attention to girl-child education and assist vulnerable children to give them a sense of belonging.

The president of the foundation, Hajiya Amina Abubakar, made the call in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency , during the Eid-el Kabir Orphans Get-Together in Kuje on Tuesday.

“When you educate a girl, you educate a nation. There is a need for government to prioritise girl-child education by having a consistent and articulated plan captured in the budget.

“The girl-child education is very important, but it can’t be addressed without checking the poverty level in the country.

“In most places in Nigeria, the girl-child is at a disadvantage compared to their male counterparts in terms of education and access to some amenities.

“We want the government to do more for the girls. We want girls to be given special priority in quality education that would make them self-reliant,” she said.

According to her, promoting girl-child education will enable women to take their rightful position in the scheme of things, and reduce poverty.
