Lagos, April 5, 2019 Fred Amata, President, Director’s Guild of Nigeria (DGN) on Friday called on the management of some cinema houses in Lagos, to desist from showing only films and movies that they contributed to its production at the detriment of others.

Amata said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.

According to him, “some of the cinema houses in Lagos, in trying to get the best of their practices, have come out with rules and regulations that are detrimental to a free and fair level playing field.’’

“For instance, some cinema houses said that they would like to be involved in a movie’s scripting and casting before they can be shown in their cinemas.

“However, this is totally beyond their scope and it is a problem that needs to be addressed and tackled.

The DGN’s president said that the organisation was committed to ensure that the cinema industry developed along the lines of best international standard practices.

Amata said that the body for the past 20 years had nurtured the development and growth in almost every part of the profession from script writing, acting to directing and cinematography.

“DGN has been a major influence to the growth and development of practitioners we have today.

“We are planning to celebrate 20 years in a grand style to mark DGN’s contribution to the development of the entertainment sector which would be announce at a later date,” he said.

Amata said that all the big names in the entertainment industry would surely join in the celebration which would make it a very colourful ceremony.
