Founder and chief executive of the Dresden-based company Oliver Riedel said that the procedure – which involves subjecting the material to large amounts of pressure – would allow them to convert 1 kilogram of plastic waste into approximately one litre of fuel.
Roman Maletz, an expert in waste at TU University in Dresden, said that if it could be implemented, the procedure would be a viable approach to creating sustainable energy sources.
He added, however, that research conducted in the last few years had shown that the technical implementation of turning plastic waste into fuel is difficult.
Thus far, Biofabrik has already signed a cooperation agreement with the Institute of New Energy Wuhan (INEW).
INEW will support Biofabrik in the sales, further development and support of the plants in China.
