German parliament extends Kosovo, Lebanon military deployments

Published

on

The maximum contingent for the Kosovo deployment has been cut from 800 to 400.

Just 70 German personnel are currently deployed in the Balkan country, which has not gained universal diplomatic recognition.

The upper limit for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)  remained static at 300. The German navy currently has a corvette on station there with around 140 personnel.

Since Kosovo declared independence in 2008, Kosovo Force has focused on facilitating a stable, democratic and multi-ethnic Kosovo.

With respect to UNIFIL, the Bundeswehr has been involved in patrolling the sea off Lebanon and training the country’s navy.
