Gov. Yahaya inaugurates 20-member Task Force on immunisatio, one other committee



Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, on Thursday inaugurated a 20-member Task Force Committee on immunisation and 10-member steering committee on Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHPF), to enhance polio  eradication and access to healthcare service delivery.

Nigeria News Agency reports that the governor appointed his deputy, Dr Manassah Jatau as chairman of the Task Force Committee on immunisation while Dr Ahmed Gana, the Commissioner of Health is to head BHPF Committee.

Yahaya reiterated his administration’s commitment toward improving the well being of the people through the provision of quality health services and infrastructure.

He said that the task force was constituted to enhance immunisation coverage to protect children against preventable diseases associated with childhood morbidity and mortality.

According to him, the decision to constitute the task force is sequel to directives by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA), requesting state governments to establish task force on immunisation.

Yahaya said the constitution of the task force was in tandem with the state government’s believe that immunisation and other primary healthcare services need strong collaboration of all stakeholders to ensure sustainable social and economic development.

“The Basic Healthcare Provision Fund is provided to ensure adequate and sustainable funding.

“This will efficiently and equitably be use to provide quality healthcare services, particularly to the most vulnerable members of the society, through the provision of basic minimum-packaged health services and emergency treatment,” he said.

Yahaya explained that the programme was intended to inject new live into the healthcare service delivery through synergy with the local government councils, development organizations, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and communities.

The governor listed terms of reference of the task force to include, “ ensuring effective leadership and coordination of all immunisation activities and to monitor the quality of immunisation.’’

Yahaya tasked members of the task force to prepare, review and update a 12-months state plan for intervention, intensification of polio eradication and routine immunisation as well as oversee the preparations of budget for immunisation activities.

He added that the committee on the BHPF would liaise with the federal government agencies to facilitate the enrollment of the state into the scheme.

Also speaking, Jatau, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them and assured that the task force would deliver on its mandate.

Jatau noted that effective immunisation coverage would save more lives in the state.
