Aba (Abia) April 24, 2019 The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders has expressed concern over attempted plans by some persons and parties to foist their candidates on the National Assembly describing it as `undemocratic and backward’.

The group raised its voice on the issue through a press release made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Aba on Tuesday.

The press release was signed by Chief Goodluck Ibem, President General and Dr Kanice Igwe, Secretary General of the group respectively.

They said that all the arms of government should be allowed the democratic freedom given to them by law to operate for better representation.

The coalition also said that the attempt to displace the will of the people would be detrimental to the progress and development of Nigeria.

They said that the effort by some persons in some parties to protect only their interest against the interest of Nigerians in general was going to adversely affect the unity of the nation if allowed to continue.

They, therefore, called for caution in the way Nigerian politicians place their interest above common good, stressing that voters should have paramount place in political decisions.

The group urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to desist from encouraging slanted zoning arrangements that were not in the interest of the nation and her people.

They condemned the party’s alleged act of playing the politics of `nepotism, cronyism, favoritism, parochialism and patronage’ which they said could cause disaffection among various ethnic groups in Nigeria.

They asked the APC and government in power to consider all ethnic groupings while giving appointments or sharing national offices to foster trust which they noted was lacking in Nigeria.
