Hold your leaders accountable on electoral promises – Olumilua

Mr Muyiwa Olumilua, Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Tourism, and Values Orientation, has admonished the electorates to hold their leaders to account on their electoral promises and actions.

Olumilua gave the charge in Ado-Ekiti while addressing students of the International Institute of Journalism, Abuja, (Ado-Ekiti Campus) at an award ceremony and public lecture.

The Nigeria News Agency reports the topic of the lecture, organised by the Students’ Representative Council, is; “The role of Leadership in the Transformation of Nigeria”.

The Commissioner charged electorates never to remain docile, but be willing to question their leaders on their actions and unfulfilled electoral promises.

He said asking questions has become imperative for the nation to attain the development it craves for.

Olumilua noted that Nigeria’s underdevelopment and endemic corruption could be attributed to the long years of bad governance and docility of the followers in keeping leaders to their toes.

The commissioner says “a nation can never grow beyond the quality of its leaders’’ adding that the APC-led government has done so much to turn the situation around.

Specifically, he said Ekiti state has returned to the path of honour with the return of Governor Kayode Fayemi to the helms of affairs.

He noted that the Governor’s open style of leadership was in fulfillment of his promise to provide administrative system that will carry everyone along..

The commissioner, who was honoured with the award of the “Most Outstanding Politician’’ in the State, attributed his achievements to Fayemi who gave him the opportunity to serve the people.

He thanked the students for the honour stressing that an award of such magnitude was an indication that the people were watching.

The commissioner promised never to take the award and recognition for granted
