Lagos, March 12, 2019 The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 25-year-old househelp, Peace Micheal, before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing her employer’s clothes and money valued at N150,000.

Micheal is facing a count charge of stealing to which she pleaded not guilty.

Following her plea of not guilty, the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje admitted the defendant to a bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Kubeinje said the surety should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, the defendant committed the offence on March 2 at No. 25, Olorunrinu St., Ogudu in Lagos.

Ihiehie said the defendant allegedly stole six pieces of clothes valued at N75, 000 and N75, 000 cash, belonging to her employer, Mrs Faith Ilekhomon.

He said that the housemaid had called Ilekhomon on phone on March 2 seeking for permission to go and visit her brother at Epe; which she permitted her and told her to come back the following day.

“The complainant got home and discovered that the defendant had stolen some of her clothes and money from her room.

Ihiehie told the court that the defendant who was employed on Feb. 4, refused to pick the employers’ phone calls until she was arrested at Epe on March 7.

The offence violated Sections 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 287 stipulates seven years imprisonment for offenders.

The magistrate adjourned the case until April 8.
