A five-time paralympian, Lucy Ejike,  says she will leave no stone unturned to set a new record in the 2020  Paralympic Games in Tokyo in September.

Ejike, a para-powerlifting athlete, told the Nigeria News Agency in Lagos on Wednesday that  she was training tirelessly to be in form to fly Nigeria’s flag at the paralympics.

NAN reports that the Enugu-born athlete represented Nigeria in paralympic games in Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004,  Beijing in 2008,  London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2020.

She won gold and silver medals.

“Performing well or winning medals in paralympic is not easy. However it all depends on your commitment; I train a lot; it has become part of me because I cannot do without it.

“I take every session of the schedule as preparations for the games, and it has really helped me to achieve much in my career,” she said.

The Nigeria’s flag bearer in the Rio Paralympics, clinched a gold medal in the women 61kg division with a lift of 142kg at the Rio Games.

She told NAN that she would do her best to  break  records in Tokyo.

Ejike said that Tokyo 2020  would be an opportunity to record more feats in her career and bring greater  honour to Nigeria.

“I always aspire to achieve something new at every appearance in the games because that is where I can stand out,” she added.

NAN reports that Ejike featured in the 2019 International ParaWorld Championships held in Kazakhstan in July and won a gold medal with a lift of 132kg.
