I’m training my children for Ex-Squash Pros Championships – Durosinlorun

By Aderonke Ojediran-Lawal
Lagos, Feb. 21, 2019 Yusuf Durosinlorun, a former squash player, on Thursday said that he had started training his children ahead of the 3rd Ex-Squash Pros Championships, holding from April 24 to April 27 in Lagos.

Durosinlorun, who was a squash player in the 1980s, dropped the hint in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, while speaking on the event scheduled to hold at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.

“Right now, they are training; my daughters and my son are already getting prepared. As a former player myself, I know the value of training early for a tournament.

“We train mostly weekends for now; but as the day approaches, we will train after school.

“I believe they will be tournament-ready come April,’’ he said.

When asked how his children combine education and squash, the one-time number one-ranked male player in Nigeria said he tried to ensure a balance between education and squash.

“Take for instance last year’s edition of the championships; my son did not participate because he had so much going on in school. He is in SS2; so, he didn’t play that tournament.

“I believe we should not for any reason neglect their education, as a former player myself, I understand this because no matter how good you are as a player, you would retire.
“Age will stop you even if you don’t want to stop. Right now, I work.

“If I didn’t go to school, what happens? So, I’m an example to my children. They know playing squash is important, but education is even more important,’’ he said.

NNN reports that Durosinlorun was the interim chairman of ex-squash pro when it was founded in 2017.
