The Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Muhammad Babandede, has advised officers and men to be transparent in the execution of projects initiated by the service.

Babandede gave the advice during his media chat on NIS infrastructural projects and execution nationwide in 2020 on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said that the service would continue to encourage transparency in all the zonal and state commands of the service and ensure that project execution were done accordingly.

“The essence of this gathering is to encourage transparency among us. We have done this in the past and this is the third time we will gather like this.

“The issue of transparency in public service has been the reason for inviting Independent Corrupt Practices and Other related Offences Commission (ICPC) again because that is the best form of transparency.

“This year, each zonal offices will tell us what they have done so far because checking ourselves before others check us is the key to accountability and transparency.

“We did a lot of projects in 2018/2019 and NIS is very lucky to have projects that have never been seen before in the Nation.

“We also want to keep you engage because we will all determine the projects we will be doing together in 2020,” he said.

Babandede urged ICPC to extend the exercise to other government agencies and organisations in order to support the present administration efforts in the fight against corruption.

The Chairman, ICPC, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, appreciated the NIS for taking the lead to ensure honesty among the officers and men in the service projects execution.

Owasanoye, who was represented by Head Intelligence and Monitoring, Mr Lawrence Abuo, said that the commission would continue to partner with the service to encourage clarity.

“We want to thank you for taking the lead and we look forward to working with you to ensure transparency at all levels,” he said.

News agency of Nigeria reports that some other projects executed by NIS were Technology building, Data command and Control centres, MIDAS technology among others.
