Informal workers want effective, transparent management of state’s resources
Osogbo, June 28,2019 The Federation of Informal Workers Organisation of Nigeria (FIWON), a NGO, has called for effective and transparent management of state’s resources to fast track socio-economic development.
Mr Olayinka Ibrahim, the Osun State Coordinator of the group, made the call while talking to newsmen on the sideline of a one-day Budget Monitoring and Advocacy Workshop held in Osogbo on Friday.
“The group has been able to identified some gaps in the 2019 state budget which demand urgent attention.
” The State Budget 2019 did not capture the demands of the informal workers as presented to the state government .
” Government should know that the informal workers play critical roles when it comes to the development and growth of the state and this is worrisome.
” The organisation is aware of another budget cycle which commences in July.
” We want to use this opportunity to call on the Government of Osun to revisit the demands we had presented.
” The Ministry of Budget and Planning should start engaging stakeholders and communities on this matter for meaningful inputs comes 2020,” Ibrahim said.
He stressed the need for government to manage the state’s resources effectively and transparently for growth and development.
