Insecurity: Councillors forum absolves LG chairman in Zamfara of complicity

Councillors in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara have absolved the Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar of complicity in the spate of insecurity in the area.

The councillors who spoke under the aegis of Maradun Councillors Forum said that Abubakar who was recently suspended by the state House of Assembly had no hand in the security problems of the area.

The forum’s chairman, Sirajo Madugu made the statement on Tuesday in Gusau when the state Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC),  Alhaji Lawal Liman, met with party stakeholders in the state.

Madugu,  who is also the councilor representing Maradun-South, said that the allegations against the suspended chairman were politically motivated.

He stated that those who wrote the petition against the chairman that prompted his suspension, were sponsored by some politicians.

“ We the councillors representing the ten political wards in Maradun local government are strongly condemning the allegations, we also condemn the chairman’s suspension by the state house of assembly.

“We are calling on the state house of assembly to review the suspension against the council chairman, such suspension must be in line with the law.

“It is unfortunate to see a state house of assembly that should be making laws now breaking the the law,” he said.

In his remark, the state APC Chairman, Liman thanked the councillors for their resolve to remain loyal to the party.

Liman said that the councillors’ loyalty to the party was indicative of the APC’s strength in the state.

“I urge our party faithful in Marudun and other parts of the state to remain patient, united and law abiding,” he said.

Nigeria News Agency reports that the state assembly on July 31, suspended Abubakar for allegedly working against the state government’s directive on security matters.
