Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace (IDFP) on Tuesday, said it had concluded plans to hold its 3rd General Assembly and peace conference.

Alhaji Ishaq Sanni, of the IDFP, who spoke on behalf of the group at a news conference in Abuja, noted that the peace of Nigeria could not be negotiated as there was no alternative to such.

Sanni also said that the conference was another opportunity for the assembly to coordinate various initiatives of member organisations in order to provide a good medium for dialogue among its constituents.

He further disclosed that the general assembly would consider and approve constitutional amendments, and most importantly refer all Inter-faith matters requiring investigations.

“All Interfaith matters requiring investigations and instruction will be sent to the Central coordination Council for action in order to ensure a peaceful atmosphere between the two major religious bodies in Nigeria,” he said.

Bishop Sunday Onuoha, Co-Chair, Executive Council, IDFP, tasked journalists on the need to be proper managers of conflict through their reportage.

Onuoha urged the media to channel efforts towards mitigating conflicts by promoting peace rather than fueling the situation through sensational reportage.

He, however, noted that the media, being a vehicle for transmitting information to the general public, should also be “a vehicle of transforming and managing conflicts,” he added.
