The Police in Jigawa on Friday assured residents of the state of adequate security during the Saturday’s council election.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Bala Senchi, gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen in Dutse.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC), had scheduled the election for June 29, in all the 27 local government areas of the state.

Senchi said the command had taken proactive measures to ensure a hitch-free and peaceful conduct of the election.

He explained that the command had increased its patrol teams on major roads in order to ensure that law and order were maintained during the period.

The CP added that over 3,000 personnel were deployed across the 27 local government areas to provide security during the exercise.

”Mobile Police have also been put on standby at the command’s headquarters in case of eventualities,” the CP said.

According to him, adequate policemen would be stationed at each of the over 3,000 polling units across the state.

Senchi added that some of the policemen will be stationed at various collation centres, while others would man strategic places with other security agencies in the state.

”The personnel, in collaboration with other security agencies will provide security for JISIEC’s personnel and ad hoc staff, voters, and election materials.

The CP advised contestants and party leaders in the state to warn their supporters against acts capable of causing the breakdown of law and order during the exercise.

He also urged voters in the state to be orderly at the polling stations to ensure the success of the election.

According to him, the police command had also restricted vehicular movements in all parts of the state on June 29, between 12 noon and 6 pm.

He, therefore, advised people to cooperate with all security personnel for peaceful conduct of the election.
