Auyo Local Government Council in Jigawa on Monday said it spent over N2.8 million on sponsoring 18 students for National Diploma Programme at the Institute of Information Technology, Kazaure.
The Council’s Chairman, Alhaji Umar Musa-Kalgwai, stated this in Auyo on Monday while presenting laptop computers to the students.
He said the council spent over N2.1 million on purchasing 18 laptops for the students, and over N700,000 for payment of their 2019/2020 registration fees.
Musa-Kalgwai noted that the sponsorship was borne out of the desire to enhance the use of information technology in the area.
Earlier, the Council’s Training Officer, Alhaji Abdullahi Dantatu, urged the students to study hard and avoid all forms of distraction.
“I am calling on you to take your studies seriously; don’t forget, you are the lucky ones among hundreds that applied.
“If you work hard and pass, you are increasing your chances of getting future sponsorship by the council,” he said.
Mohammad Haruna, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the council for finding them worthy of the sponsorship, and promised to make the council proud. (NAN)
