Jos Rotary Club gives award of excellence to Women Affairs Minister, others



The Rotary Club of Jos Central on Tuesday gave an Award of Excellence to the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline Tallen, for her immense contributions toward improving the lives of indigents in Plateau.

Nigeria News Agency reports that Tallen was recognised along with 13 others at the Rotary Award for Vocational Excellence at a ceremony held in Jos.

Speaking at the event, the minister thanked the club for recognising her contributions, saying she was passionate in helping humanity while developing the state.

She also commended the club for its humanitarian contributions in improving lives especially its fight against polio in Nigeria.

Represented by Dr Jophia Gupar,member, ministerial technical committee, private sector, of the Ministry, Tallen said that she was committed to supporting the club in executing projects in Plateau, saying it would augment government’s efforts.

The President of the club, Mrs Yemisi Ekwu, said the event was meant to recognise those who had excelled in their chosen fields and careers.

“Today, we have singled out some individuals who have excelled in their chosen professions for recognition and we look forward for collaborations with the recipients.

“The rotary award was conceived to recognise Rotarians or non Rotarians who have a record of uniqueness and high attainment in their chosen fields or vocations which have been to the advancement of the society, “ Ekwu said.

Other recipients of the award included: Ms Gloria Thomas, a Journalist with the Voice of Nigeria (VON); Dr Samuel Komolafe, a Hospitality expert; Mrs Fadake Ayo-Ojajune an Educationist; and Mr Joseph Akande, a Chartered Accountant.

Mr Lucky Momoh an educationist; Mrs Victoria Sotonwa, a business woman; Cpl Solomon Johnson, a Nigerian Police Traffic Warden; and Dr Ugo Ihekuna, a medical consultant, were also among the recipients.
