Kaduna Govt. reiterates commitment to ensuring safety of children

The Kaduna State Government has reiterated its commitment to providing safety for all children in the state.

The Commissioner for Human Service and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba told the Nigeria News Agency in Kaduna that government recently closed down an orphanage in Kaduna over alleged trafficking of children.

According to her, though the orphanage was registered with the ministry and also belonged to the body of orphanages, it was found that the woman was into child trafficking.

“She bought a child for N170,000 and took the child to Abuja,

“The policemen that discovered her are from the Abuja Special Squad and they have to force her to bring out the child.

“So, as I am speaking to you, the child is with us in the government’s orphanage.’’

The commissioner said investigation was ongoing and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) was also involved.

According to her, one of the accomplices was a former social health worker from the ministry who was sacked because of the illegal business she was doing.

The commissioner appealed to the police and NAPTIP to be thorough in their investigation.
