Karaye Emirate Council restates commitment to curb rape, drug abuse

The Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II, on Monday assured law enforcement agencies of cooperation in addressing the issues of rape and drug abuse in the emirate.

This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday  in Kano by Haruna Gunduwawa, Information Officer of the Emirate Council.

The emir gave the assurance when he received the National Coordinator, Nigeria Policing Programme, Alhaji Kabiru Ahmed, who paid him a courtesy visit in Karaye, Kano State.

He noted that kidnappings, rape and drug abuse were among the greatest challenges to the socio-economic development of the country.

Abubakar therefore said deliberate efforts must be made to fight such societal ills.

The emir lauded the commitment of the Police, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency and related agencies in tackling the menace, and in enlightening the populace to their debilitating effects.

Earlier, Ahmed stressed the importance of supporting security agencies in the crusade against criminalities in the society.

He urged the emirate council to render necessary support to the maintenance of peace and stability at all times.
