The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Dogo Shammah, has urged the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the state to keep information officers abreast of their activities for adequate publicity of government programmes.

Shammah stated this on Tuesday Lafia, while playing host to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ), Ministry of Information chapter who were on a courtesy visit to him in his office.

According to him, information officers play critical role in educating and enlightening people about government activities, hence the need for them to be very much aware of the activities of MDAs.

“I want to appreciate you for this visit. As you are all aware, this ministry was created to inform and educate the people of the state on government activities.

“It is also saddled with the responsibility of promoting culture and tourism, thereby boosting government’s revenue.

“You are the engine room of this ministry. I urge you to be up and doing in promoting government activities, as the Gov. Abdullahi Sule-led administration is anchored on the fear of God, accountability and rule of law.

“I want to call on other commissioners and heads of MDAs to give adequate information to our information officers so that government activities will be projected and publicised,” he said.

Shammah promised to operate an open door policy and carry everybody along in the discharge of his duties.

He tasked journalists on balanced reportage in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the state.

The commissioner called on journalists and the people of the state to continue to support the governor in his quest to take the state to a higher level.

Earlier, Mr Ibrahim Dauda, the Chairman of the chapel, said that the visit was to congratulate the commissioner on his appointment, which he described as well-deserved.

He expressed appreciation to the governor for considering one of them worthy of appointment as commissioner, promising to give their support and cooperation to Shammah to succeed in his assignment.

The chairman, however, appealed to the commissioner to provide information officers with adequate working tools, such as midgets and computers, among others for effective performance of their duties.
