Kwara Govt. launches 2020 National Immunisation Plus Days



Gov. AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq of Kwara on Thursday launched the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) in the state.

Represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi at the launch in Ilorin, the governor expressed delight over the eradication of the polio virus in the state.

He said that a survey conducted in the state in the past five months revealled negative incidence of the disease.

He assured kwara people of the state government’s determination to meet standard requirements for quality campaign against polio, as well as strengthen immunisation delivery in the state.

He urged parents, caregivers, schools, religious and community leaders to make children from age 0-5 years available for immunisation against the polio virus from Feb. 15 to Feb. 18.

Hon. Rasaq Owolabi, the Chairman, Kwara State House of Assembly Committee on Health and Environment,

said that the ninth assembly was committed to ensuring more bills that would  help in improving healthcare service delivery in the state.

The Representative of the state’s Commissioner for Health, Mr Ilyasu Tsado, noted that immunisation was the most important public health intervention known to man and had prevented millions of diseases and deaths globally.

The Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Abimbola Folorunsho, thanked the governor for the turnaround in the primary healthcare sector.

She emphasised the importance of routine immunisation to maintaining the state’s polio-free status and charged the government to sustain the effort.
