Lebanon to select agriculture trade partners based on reciprocity

Louis Lahoud, Director-General, Ministry of Agriculture, on Thursday said Lebanon would not import any product from the countries that do not buy Lebanese agriculture produce.

“We have a problem in our agricultural agreements with other countries.

“We will review these agreements in a way that would allow Lebanon to treat other countries based on reciprocity.

“It is time now to work in favour of Lebanon’s balance of trade,’’ he said.

Lebanon’s trade deficit for the first three months of 2019 stood at $4.09 billion, larger than $3.99 billion in 2018.

Lahoud, however, added that Lebanon would always encourage expatriates to work on promoting Lebanese production all over the world.
