Legal Aid Council lauds Gov. Sule over Child Protection Executive Order

The Legal Aid Council on Wednesday lauded Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State for signing the Child Protection Executive Order and the state Anti-Kidnapping Bill, 2020 into law.


Mr Aliyu Abubakar, Director General of the council, told newsmen in Lafia that the laws would curtail street begging by children and reduce the menace ofn kidnapping in the state.

The Nigeria News Agency reports that Gov. Sule, who signed the executive order and the kidnapping bill into law on Wednesday, also inaugurated the Penal Code Reform Committee and Community Volunteer Guards (Vigilante) Committee.

The Child Protection Executive Order is expected to protect children from exploitation and abuse, neglect and abandonment as well guaranteeing their education and a secured future.

Abubakar said that with the development the menace of kidnapping and other vices, which were a serious threat not only Nasarawa State but to the country would be greatly checked.

“I want to believe that the laws if properly harnessed,  will bring some level of peace and security to Nasarawa State and the country.

“So I congratulate the governor for taking this step because it is in the right direction,” he said

The DG also lauded the governor for including the council in the committee to review the penal code.

He added that since he assumed office, many changes had taken place in the council, especially in the training of staff to meet modern demands of the institution.
