Make training of teachers your priority, NUT tells Kwara govt.



The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) on Thursday called on the Kwara Government to make training and welfare of teachers its priority.

The NUT Chairman in the state, Mr Toyin Soliu, made the plea in Ilorin when the union paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Fatima Ahmed.

Soliu said making training and welfare of teachers government’s priority would promote service delivery in the state.

He also commended the state government for appointing a practising teacher to head the ministry, saying Ahmed’s appointment was in order.

“It is a thing of joy for us that one of our own, a practising teacher, is appointed to administer the education sector in the State of Harmony.

” We are very grateful and we appreciate Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for this recognition,”Soliu said.

He reiterated the readiness of teachers to partner with her in order to execute the education policy of the present administration.

”We have come to formally congratulate you on your appointment and pledge our loyalty and support to you and the state government.

”As partners in progress, we shall continue to offer suggestions and advice that we consider very germane and require urgent intervention for the education development in the state,” Soliu said.

In her remarks, the commissioner commended the executives of the union for the visit.

He promised that the present administration in the state would not relent in its efforts to provide quality education in the state.
