Man, 25, bags 2 years’ imprisonment for stealing motorcycles



Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Olupitan Joshua, to two years’ imprisonment for stealing two motorcycles.

Joshua, whose address was not provided, was arraigned before Magistrate Modupe Afeniforo on a charge of stealing.

The convict pleaded guilty and pleaded with the court for leniency.

The magistrate, Mrs Modupe Afeniforo, convicted Joshua but gave him N 20,000 option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, had told the court that Joshua committed the offence on April 10, at 10:00 a.m., at Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti.

Akinwale said that Joshua stole two Bajaj boxer motorcycles from different owners in the same area.

“He stole a Bajaj boxer motorcycle with registration number AMK 624 QA valued at N300,000, being the   property of one Aruleba Adebusuyi.

“Joshua also stole another Bajaj boxer motorcycle with registration number QC 845 EFY  valued at N250,000 belonging to  one Dayo Sasere,” he said.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

He said that Joshua was apprehended by the police in Ikere-Ekiti.

Akinwale  said that the police  had asked Joshua  to provide the particulars of one of the motorcycles.

He said Joshua failed to tender the papers.

The prosecutor told the court that the police also discovered during investigation that Joshua had another stolen motorcycle in his possession.
