Lagos, June 11, 2019 A 25-year-old man, Godwin Ojelele, on Tuesday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with stealing pipes and iron rods worth N138,000.
Ojelele, who resides at Ojota area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft.
The defendant however, denied the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that Ojelele committed the offences on May 20.
Ihiehie said that the defendant allegedly conspired with one other person now at large and stole 12 pieces of pipes valued at N102,000, property of Koad Nigeria Limited on Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
He said Ojelele also allegedly stole two telecommunication manhole covers valued at N20,000 and two iron rods valued at N16,000, all totaling N138,000.
The prosecutor said the defendant was caught by one of the company’s staff who reported the matter to the police.
Ihiehie said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 28 stipulates three years imprisonment for theft, while Section 411 attracts two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje granted the defendant bail in the sum N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Kubeinje adjourned the case until July 1 for further hearing.
