Man, 25, jailed 6 months for stealing motorcycle

A Sharia Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna on Monday sentenced one Zubairu Dahiru to six months imprisonment for stealing a boxer model motorcycle from one Danjummai.

The defendant, a resident of Mai Shagari village of Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

“At first, I took the bike with the intention of returning it back to the owner, but later decided to make it mine; it has been with me for 5 months before I was caught”, he explained

The Judge Malam Murtala Nasir, while sentencing the convict gave him an option of N10,000 fine and warned him not to engage in criminal activities.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ibrahim Aliyu told the court that some members of the Kaduna state vigilante service arrested the defendant on Aug.  14, with a motorcycle suspected to be stolen.

“They reported the matter to the police station and the defendant pleaded guilty to stealing the motorcycle from Abuja.

“The motorcycle had since been returned to the owner, ” he said.

He said the offence contravenes section 139 of the Shari’a Penal code. (NAN)
