Man, 27, docked for allegedly possessing dangerous weapon, cultism

Olanrewaju Dimeji, 27, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state for allegedly being a cult member and illegally possessing a pistol.

 

He was also alleged to be conducting himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge bordering on breach of peace, threat to life and be  in possession of a dangerous weapon.

 

The prosecutor, Sgt. Mary Ajiteru, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 6, at about 11:15 p.m. at Ori-Okuta junction, Owutu area of Ikorodu.

 

She alleged that the defendant had confessed to being a member of the illegal `Eiye’ Confraternity, a cult group based in Isawo.

 

She told the court that police operatives allegedly found a locally-made pistol with the defendant.

 

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 168, 42(a) and 43(2) of Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

 

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

 

The magistrate, Mr O.M. Dawodu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.

 

He adjourned the case until July 25, for mention.
