The Police in Kaduna State on Thursday arraigned a 30-year-old man, Bashir Mohammed before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing jewellery worth N600,000.
The suspect is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, house breaking and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Leo Chidi told the court that one Yusuf Liman of Kinkinau, Kaduna State, reported the matter at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department on June 30.
Chidi alleged that the defendant broke into the complainant’s house and stole his gold wrist watch and jewellery worth N600,000.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant also stole cash of N1.5 million and $30,000 from the complainant’s safe.
Chidi said that when the defendant was arrested, he confessed to have conspired with one Abdullahi Ibrahim and one Sani Haruna both at large to steal from the complainant.
He noted that the offences contravened the provisions of sections 59, 328 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant, to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.
Emmanuel adjourned the case until Sept 3, for mention.
