Man, 32, docked over alleged motorcycle theft



Modakeke (Osun), March 15, 2019 A 32-year-old man, Sani Danjuma, has appeared before a Modakeke Magistrates’ Court in Osun, over alleged theft of a motorcycle, valued at N250,000.

The prosecutor, Insp. Glory Ona, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 22, 2018, at 11.00 a.m., at Alagbagun area of Modakeke near Ile-Ife.

Ona said that the defendant and others still at large stole an unregistered Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with chassis no: 2A18AY5JWA55849 and Engine no: DUZWJA54850.

The prosecutor said that Danjuma was intercepted on the motorcycle by a police team and could not provide any valid document to show its ownership.

Ona said that the offences committed contravened Sections 430 (1) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

Magistrate Abimbola Famuyide granted the accused bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Famuyide said that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction and one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant.

She added that the second surety must own real property within the court’s jurisdiction and the sureties must submit three recent passport photographs each to the court.

The case was adjourned until April 24, for hearing.
