Man, 47, in court for allegedly collecting N141,000 under false pretences

A 47-year-old man, Adebayo Olofinlade, on Wednesday appeared before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N141,000 under false pretences.

Olofinlade is facing a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences, stealing and breach of peace, the offences which he denied.

The Prosecutor, ASP Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 10, at about 8:30 p.m. at No 40, Faloye Str., Ketu in Ijanikin area of Lagos.

Ikem alleged that the accused collected N141,000 fraudulently from Nwachukwu Isaac under false pretences to supply the plaintiff tippers of sand.

“The accused stole the sum of N141,000, which belonged to the plaintiff.

“The accused also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace by collecting the sum of N141,000 to supply the plaintiff tippers of sand which he refused to supply.

“The offences contravened Sections 313, 287 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 as amended.

The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until June 11 for mention.
