Man, 60, docked over alleged theft of 100 bags of cement

A 60-year-old man, Ogunpeju Michael, on Tuesday appeared before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of 100 bags of cement.

Michael is facing a two count-charge bordering on theft, but he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Bose Soyemi, told the court that Michael committed the offences sometime in 2001 at MDS area of Osogbo.

The prosecutor said Michael refused to pay for 100 bags of cement he bought from one Mr Kolapo Modinat.

“The accused also collected the sum of N20, 000 from the complainant with the intent to pay back but failed to do so,” she said.

She said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal  Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The Magistrate, Mr Ola Olagoke, granted tge defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Olagoke said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and have evidence of tax payment.

He adjourned the case to Sept. 3 for substantive hearing.
