Marketer docked over alleged theft of sales proceed

A 25-year-old marketer, Obinna Onwuachu, who allegedly absconded with N89,000, being sale proceeds of his employer was on Monday brought before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant, who is facing a charge of theft, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 7 at 6:00p.m at Banana Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

Agboko said that the defendant, who was newly employed as a marketer for a new brand of soft drink, was assigned a vehicle to convey the drinks and other marketers to the Estate for sales promo.

“On his first day at work, the defendant ran away with N89, 000, proceed from the sales made that day belonging to Mr Debo Fatoye.

“He abandoned the vehicle outside the Estate gate and ran away until he was later traced to where he was apprehended,” Agboko said.

The offence contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015; which carries seven years imprisonment for stealing from one’s employer.

The Magistrate, Mr T. A. Anjorin-Ajose, granted the defendant N200, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Ajose adjourned the case until Aug. 12 for hearing.
