Federal Ministry of Science and Technology (FMST) says  it has established four policies that will  create jobs and wealth toward national advancement.

Science and technology Minister,  Ogbonnaya Onu, made this known on Tuesday in Abuja during a general meeting with Directors and Directors General of agencies under the ministry.

According to him, the ministry will deepen efforts to ensure actualisation of the policies’ objectives to improve integrity of the country.

Onu said “the four major policies that we developed in the ministry are things all of us must be proud of, which include Executive Order No.5 and National Leather Policy.

“ Others are Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Roadmap from 2017-2030, and National Strategy for Competitiveness in Raw Materials and Products Development.

“In five years, we will be able to save as much as 3.6 trillion Naira and create as much as 4.4 million jobs. That was the promise we made. We are making that progress.

“ Through the Executive Order No.5, we will no longer neglect, ignore or overlook the potential we have in our country by going outside to bring people to do things that we can do.”

The minister explained that the policies would help to reduce importation into the country, as it would encourage local production.

He, therefore, urged staff of the ministry to intensify efforts in discharging their responsibilities in their primary places of assignments.

He added that “our combined efforts will help the ministry to be a brain box of administration to lay foundation to the future of the nation.

“ Science and technology will soon be the leading ministry when it gets more money for Research and Development activities.”

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Bitrus Nabasu, thanked  Onu for the laudable ideas that had turned things around in the ministry.

He further urged the staff for cooperation to execute the ideas of the minister.

He also urged the management to  keep encouraging the staff to work hard, as well as reward outstanding performance.
