An Ibadan-based trader Sherifat Ibrahim, has told a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, that her husband, Taiwo, was callous, irresponsible and an oppressor.

In her counter argument against her husband’s allegation of disobedience, Sherifat said that her husband was a wicked man who had no interest in protecting his wife and children.

“My lord, I stopped living under the same roof with Taiwo since 2016, because I saw that my life was not secure in his home.

“Whenever there was any misunderstanding between us, Taiwo invited his twin brother to join forces with him to molest and beat me up.

“There was a time they both pushed me out of the house, leaving me with nothing to feed.

“I think that the major reason he forcefully ejected me from his house was to inherit my land which he knows about.

“Taiwo has sold that land, but the original document is still in my possession.

“If I had studied him closely before getting married to him, I would have known Taiwo was merely interested in my wealth and not that he really loved me,” Sherifat argued.

Earlier in his submission, Taiwo, a resident of Academy Area of Ibadan, had cited his wife’s disobedience against his instructions as reason for filing the suit.

“Since Sherifat and I started living together as husband and wife, she had never stayed home with me.

“She might leave home for many days without informing me of her whereabouts.

“Worse still, Sherifat recently made some incisions on the faces of our two children without my knowledge, an action which I so detest.

“She is not an example of a good housewife.

“Sherifat is even preventing me from seeing the children,” Taiwo said.

President of the court, Chief Ademola Odunade, however, requested the duo to provide more evidence to support their claims.

Odunade adjourned the case till May 13, for continuation of hearing.
