Christopher Danjuma, the Head Coach of Nasarawa Amazons Women Football Club of Lafia, on Thursday said his team would not be relenting in spite of winning the 2019 Aiteo Women’s Cup.

He told the Nigeria News Agency in Lafia that winning the league title would make it for them a season double and a good gift for all their supporters.

The coach said winning the 2019 Aiteo Cup was just not enough for them.

“We are happy with our recent achievement, but the league title is also very important and we will do our best to win it too to make our fans very happy,” he said.

Danjuma said the support given the team by the Gov. Abdullahi Sule-led Nasarawa State government was another motivation for wanting to win the league title.

“The girls are eager to show their gratitude at the support and concern shown by our governor since he came on board. Lifting both the Aiteo Cup and league title would be the best way of saying

`thank you’ and we are fully prepared to make it happen,” he said.

“I just want to assure our teeming fans that we will recover the three points we lost at home to Bayelsa Queens last week and we will do our best to win the league this season. That is our focus now.”

NAN reports that shortly after emerging Cup winners, the Amazons returned home to lose 1-2 to the NWPL defending champions, Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa.

The loss had prompted fears by their fans that the Amazons might not perform well in the league in the current season.

But they responded rapidly to the home loss by beating visiting Kaduna Queens 5-0 at the Lafia Township Stadium on Wednesday.

Danjuma said the emphatic victory against the Kaduna Queens was an angry reaction from the players to the shock home loss to Bayelsa Queens.

NAN reports that the Amazons are pitched with Bayelsa Queens, Kaduna Queens and Sunshine Queens of Akure in Group C in the current season.
