The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Kaduna, has approved four national diploma courses at Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS), Ilorin.

This is contained in a statement signed by the College’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Abdullateef Yahaya, and made available to Nigeria News Agency on Wednesday in Ilorin.

The accredited courses are: Accounting, Mass Communication, Library and Information Science,  as well as Computer Science.

“CAILS has been certified to run Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Programmes by the NBTE,’’ it stated.

The statement quoted Mrs Helen Oduntan, the Director of Monotechnic Programmes Department of NBTE, as announcing the approval in Ilorin.

The announcement was made when Oduntan led the Advisory and Resource Verification Team on inspection of the College for accreditation of new courses.

The statement said Oduntan expressed satisfaction with adequate numbers of lecture rooms, office accommodations for both teaching and nonteaching staff members as well as well stocked library with good coverage.

It noted that the verification team observed the availability of digital radio and television studios as well as other laboratories for conducive teaching and learning which were sufficient for the smooth take off of the programmes.

It said that Oduntan stressed the need for Kwara government to expand the enabling law of the college and for a change in the name of CAILS to College of Arabic, Islamic Law and Management Studies (CAILMS).

“This is to create more windows of opportunities for the expansion of the College programmes that will meet contemporary challenges,” it said.

It said that the team leader urged the government to expedite action on its plan towards construction of the intra road network of the College.

It said that the team added that perimeter fencing for the school was inevitable in view of the current security situation in the country.

The statement said that the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Hajia Sa’adat Modibbo-Kawu, reiterated commitment of the state government towards improving the standard of tertiary education in the state.

It said that the commissioner gave the assurance that government would take necessary steps to include all the requests of the team in the next budget.

It said that she assured that issues concerning change of the College’s name and enabling law of the school would be looked into and effected in line with due legal and legislative procedures.

The statement said that the College’s Provost, Dr Olokoba Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the government for prompt release of accreditation fund which in no small measure assisted the college in the exercise.

It added that Abdullahi assured that all areas identified for improvement would be given priority attention.

The Resource Advisory and Verification Team of NBTE was in Ilorin as part of accreditation of the College for the award of OND Programmes in Accounting, Mass Communication, Library and Information Science, as well as Computer Science.
